Rooted in the way Minang and Sumatran women dressed in the past, Aluih reimagines the baju panjang as an everyday expression of culture, softness, and grace. Traditionally worn as a long top and paired with songket or sarong, this silhouette becomes the heart of Aluih.

Not only for ceremony.

Made for everyday grace.

The baju panjang was never meant to feel distant. It lived in daily routines, family gatherings, and quiet moments at home. Worn with songket or sarong, it carried the softness and dignity of Sumatran women.

Behind every fabric is a hand, a rhythm, and a memory. From woven cloth to the final stitch, Aluih works from the belief that heritage should not only be remembered. It should be worn again.

Notes from Aluih

Every piece begins with one simple question: how did Sumatran women truly dress?

Aluih begins from a real silhouette. A long top, worn with songket or sarong, once common among Minang and Sumatran women. It was modest without being rigid, graceful without being excessive, and familiar without needing explanation.

We are not trying to make it feel new. We are simply giving it space again, in the wardrobe of the modern Indonesian woman. To be worn for lunch, for gatherings, for travel, for work, or for no special reason at all.

Why Aluih Exists

Aluih Sumatera was born from the realization that the long top of Minang women was slowly disappearing from everyday life, not because it was no longer loved, but because it had been forgotten. We are here to bring it back.
